David Villa (Barcelona)
Spain’s premier radio station Cadena SER report that the Reds made initial contact with Villa’s agent in an attempt to establish whether a deal could be brokered.
It’s unclear what they were told, but Barcelona-based newspaper Sport, are claiming Liverpool are planning to push ahead with their interest in the Spanish international as they look find an adequate replacement for Fernando Torres.
January’s £35million signing Andy Carroll has so far failed to impress, while Dirk Kuyt and Craig Bellamy have failed to cement a place alongside Luis Suarez in the Reds firing line.
The Anfield owners have already proven they're not scared of splashing the cash, but will surely demand boss Kenny Dalglish make a significant sale before they bankroll any bid for Villa.
Barcelona manager Pepe Guardiola has recently denied that any bad feelings exist between Villa and Messi, saying: ‘It is impossible to be an enemy of David, he is too nice a person.
'He is generous both in the way he plays football and also in his personal life. It is impossible not to get on well with him.’
Villa has just three goals in eleven La Liga appearances this season, and is competing with Messi, Pedro, Ibrahim Afellay and Alexis Sanchez for a place up front, although the later two are currently injured.

Not from the best of sources but hmm it is something quite interesting.

Wow, heard the rumours the other day but thought against starting a thread for obviously reasons.
Is Villa unhappy at Barcelona at all? cant think of any reason why he would leave right now...

Re: David Villa (Barcelona)
Balague breaks silence over Villa to Liverpool rumour
Reports linking Liverpool with a shock move for Barcelona striker David Villa have been rubbished by SkySports' Spanish correspondent Guillem Balague, who took to his website to comment on the speculation.
According to Valencia-based paper Superdeporte, the 29-year-old Spaniard is unhappy at the Camp Nou because of the problems he is having playing alongside Lionel Messi.
The newspaper also claimed that Villa's situation was being monitored by Reds boss Kenny Dalglish - who could make a shock move for the Barca star in January.
"It's important we put David Villa's circumstances at Barcelona into context," said Balague. "First of all, yes, I do believe that there is most definitely something to the notion that the footballing relationship between Messi and Villa is not quite as good as it could be.
"Villa hasn't been finding the back of the net as frequently as he has done in recent years. [But] at Barcelona, he is playing a very different role to that of a traditional number nine and he's sharing the attack with the best player in the world."
Liverpool have been linked with a number of Europe's leading lights ever since the takeover of Fenway Sports Group at Anfield - but Balague is adamant that Villa will not be one player who moves to Merseyside.
"The player knows he's at the club where he is most likely to win things and he has no intention of leaving," he concluded. "And even if he did, Villa has never been keen on leaving Spain."
The country's premier radio station Cadena SER has reported that Liverpool made initial contact with Villa's agent in an attempt to establish whether a deal could be brokered, but latest developments now look to have extinguished those claims.

Thought as much.
Maybe the rumour will resurface if we get into Europe next season.

Re: David Villa (Barcelona)
Rumours from Spain suggests Barca ready to sell David Villa to fund signing of Gareth Bale. And LFC shown genuine interest in David Villa.
Didnt think Barca needed to raise funds to buy a player BUT i do agree that Liverpools interest in Villa is real. Rumours are going around that hes falling out with Messi...

I'd be impressed if Comolli would be able to sign Villa. But what would his price tag be...

Re: David Villa (Barcelona)
It says that he is marketed in value around £40m. So if we need to pay that amount for him then I don't feel optimistic about that at all.

Would not be surprised if Barca would require somewhat 20m. But okay... let's just see what happens.

Re: David Villa (Barcelona)
If he has fallen out with Barcelona, perhaps a loan deal would be better, then sell him on in the summer?

Yeah, perhaps a loan wouldn't be such a bad idea. See how he would mix in with the squad.

Re: David Villa (Barcelona)
I think bringing in a player of David Villa quality can only be a positive thing. I know it looks unlikely but a loan deal maybe more realistic.

I said it would be a good signing. As would Villa. But they are both unrealistic.

Re: David Villa (Barcelona)
Liverpool have been linked with an audacious move for Barcelona's David Villa but the Spain striker insists he will not leave Camp Nou.
There have been reports that the Spanish international has fallen out with Barca talisman Lionel Messi and could be sold by the Catalan outfit.
However, Villa has moved to play down the rumours and is confident he still has a place in the Barcelona team.
"I feel important, and even more so when the manager (Pep Guardiola) speaks well of me," Villa was quoted as saying in the Daily Mail.
"I've always had the affection of team-mates and especially the public. I noticed it since the day I arrived, so it's not vital that I score.
"I don't give any importance to what is said outside the club. I don't have to be worried about all of this - it's all the same to me. I work so that the manager, my colleagues, the fans and my family are happy, and that's the case."
Pipe dream...

Re: David Villa (Barcelona)
David Villa breaks leg at Club World Cup

Barcelona striker David Villa has broken his left shinbone in the FIFA Club World Cup semi-final against Al Sadd.
The 30-year-old was carried off on a stretcher six minutes before half-time after appearing to land awkwardly.
The Catalan club confirmed soon after on their website, www.fcbarcelona.cat, that Spain's all-time record scorer had "suffered a fracture to the tibia in his left leg".
Barca coach Pep Guardiola yesterday dismissed Spanish media reports linking Villa with a move away from the Nou Camp in the January transfer window.
Sports newspaper Marca claimed the player was ready to move on from Barca just 19 months into the four-year deal agreed following his 40million euro transfer from Valencia.
The speculation over the Spain international's future appears to have sprung from Guardiola's decision to omit the forward from his starting line-up for Saturday's 3-1 Clasico victory against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu.
Marca - an openly pro-Real Madrid publication - suggested Villa had been made available for transfer and already touted to "the great English clubs, mainly Chelsea, Liverpool and Aston Villa", but Guardiola insisted the speculation was nonsense.
Speaking to reporters in Japan ahead of the Al Sadd game, Guardiola claimed: "Marca lie. I have not spoken to David after the last match in Madrid, but all of the players are in my plans.
"I am the one who comes up with 25 different line-ups during the season because I feel that is the best thing to do.
"Most of the players that are here now will continue for the rest of this season and the next."
Villa has scored five times in 15 Primera Division matches this season, following on from his 18 goals in 34 games as Barca won the league title last term. He has made 75 appearances for the club in all competitions, scoring 32 goals.

Yeah nasty break.
Ah well, the rumours of us getting him were non-existant anyway.
